Route Type Guide
Route names describe how data travels from local access to the destination region. They are not simple speed tiers. Gateway location, intercontinental distance, carrier interconnection, and evening congestion all affect the experience.
TX / IEPL
IEPL
IEPL focuses on greater control over the cross-border segment. Traffic enters a designated network before traveling over a planned international route to the destination, reducing unpredictable detours across the public internet. It is better suited to sustained transfers, video meetings, cloud work, extended AI Tools sessions, and tasks that are more sensitive to evening stability.
IEPL resources generally cost more to build and operate than ordinary direct connections, so they fit tasks where the connection must remain important and continuous. There is no need to use IEPL for every visit. When the destination is nearby, a well-performing transit gateway may be a better fit. Treat IEPL as a route structure, not a label to judge on its own.
TX / TRANSIT
Transit Routes
Transit routes add an intermediate node between local access and the overseas exit. This node aggregates traffic and adjusts the path, helping avoid less favorable public interconnection routes. Transit often balances cost, regional coverage, and stability, making it suitable for everyday browsing, regular video, developer resources, and switching between regional services.
Transit does not necessarily mean a longer route. A well-chosen transit point can reduce detours between networks, but the additional step makes gateway selection more important. When several transit gateways are available in one region, compare page loading, sustained playback, and interactive response instead of checking only whether one connection succeeds. Reselect the region when the destination changes.
TX / DIRECT
Direct Routes
Direct routes connect the current network straight to an exit server in the destination region, without an additional service transit layer. The simpler structure suits lightweight websites, research, temporary regional access, and tasks requiring a specific city. It also makes it easier to assess the underlying interconnection between the local carrier and the destination region.
Direct performance depends more heavily on the local network and public international interconnection. The same city gateway may perform differently across network environments, so it should not become the only permanent option. If page responses fluctuate, sustained transfers become unstable, or regional detection is incorrect, compare a transit or IEPL gateway in the same region.
COST / PATH
Cost differences come from route resources and traffic management. IEPL requires more defined resources across the international segment; transit routes add aggregation nodes and operational overhead; direct routes are simpler but rely more on public interconnection. VPN TX subscriptions offer multiple regions and route types, so choose based on the task rather than always pursuing one label.
